What is Nutritional Therapy? |

| What we eat can affect many areas of our health. Nutrition is the science that establishes the relationship between a person's diet and their levels of health. People that specialise in this are called either nutritional therapists or nutritionists or dietitians. Whilst practitioners of these three disciplines (ie nutritional therapy, nutrition and dietetics) share the goal of improving the client's or patient's health, our specific approach differs. Nutritional therapy is a complementary therapy that seeks to identify and correct underlying nutritional and lifestyle factors that are affecting the client’s health and wellbeing. Nutritional therapy practitioners prescribe individualised, realistic and practical dietary and lifestyle advice to clients, making the use of supplements where needed, based on scientific evidence. | Nutritional therapists often work with clients, who have chronic health problems that conventional medicine finds difficult to treat but also with people seeking relief from troublesome non-specific symptoms. In cases of complex chronic health problems, a variety of functional tests may be used to help identify underlying biochemical and nutritional imbalances. |
